Wood's Despatch of 1854 was also known as "Magna Carta of English Education in India".
It came into picture when the Committee headed by Charles Woods set up to review and establish a modern education system in India.
The Recommendations given by the Wood's Despatch of 1854 were :-
- Instrumental for the role of Women Education in India.
- Setting up of Universities in the Presidencies.
- Mass Education should be expanded and promoted.
- The grant-in-aid system was also recommended.
- Not only solving the students education but also focuses upon the Teacger Education.
- Special schools were recommended to made for medicine, law and engineering to teach the teachers.
Conclusion of Wood's Despatch of 1854
- To promote the women education in India, Bethune College was setup by J.E.D Bethune.
- Universities of Bombay, Calcutta and Madras were established.
- Department of Education to be set up in all the provinces.
- Also, the agriculture Institution was set up in Pusa in Bihar to develop research in Agriculture.
- Westernised Education came into picture.
