Before  the  French  revolution,  the  state  of  peasants  was  very  bad.  They  had  to  pay  a  lot  of  taxes,  including  the  additional  taxes  also.  Other than  this,  they  also  had  to  render  their  services  to  the  clergy  and  nobility.

The Old Regime was the name for the French government during the hundred years prior to the Revolution.

some of the conditions of the peasants were :

1.The peasantry mainly lived in the countryside on farms.

2.King Louis taxed them exorbitantly.

3.No sort of public education existed at he time, and most peasants faced a lifetime of difficult conditions without salvation.

4.The peasants farmed weakly because they had insufficient tools and not enough knowledge of the craft.

5.The peasants and nobles stayed isolated from one another.
