Hi! hope this helps

The 19th Century mainly involved the colonization period when the British evolved from traders to rulers in the region. Indian farmers were forced to collect raw materials which the British would import to their Homeland to get it converted into finished products. These products were sold back to the Indians after manufacturing.

Small scale industries did not thrive much during the colonization period. Khadi clothes were very expensive, which was one of the main reasons why the Non Cooperation movement failed. Many people were unemployed due to the uprising and boycotting of British industries, which led to mass production of cottage products such as handwoven textiles, handicrafts and more, which led to Gandhi's concept of a "self sustaining" India.
