Gangai konda Cholapuram was one of the greatest empire of its time. Just because it was in the previous millennium doesn't mean the caste system and discrimination existed in the form we know it today. In ancient times a cast was determined as per the vedic tradition of the Thinai system as called in South India that is one is tearmed into a class according to his occupation. Though everything went as per the norms of that time the Chola Empire was also known to People's welfare.
