More and more people came from the countryside to the cities to find employment. If they had a friend or relative in a factory, they could easily get a job.Many job seekers had to wait for weeks. They spent the night under bridges or in night Shelters.Some stayed in Night Refugees Camp,set -up by individuals,others went to the Casual Wards maintained by the Poor Law authorities.
Many industries offered seasonal work. After the season was over, the workers were again without work. As a result, some workers went back to their villages to work on the farms.
