He was one of the first to oppose All India Muslim League’s demand for partition of India. Further, when the Congress accepted the demand, he knew a blunder had been made and opposed it firmly.he did pledge alliance to Pakistan after partition but was often jailed and exiled due to his demands such as separate state known as Pashtunistan for all the Pashtuns and speaking against the One Unit program of the Pakistan Government.

He has been the 'political and spiritual leader', a committed pacifist and a faithful Muslim, known for his non-violent opposition. Khan was nicknamed Frontier "Gandhi" in British India, being a close friend of Mahatma. Abdul Ghaffar Khan himself had emerged as an admired leader of the resurgent nation in his own right. He was one of the participants of Mahatma's various movements, including the Civil Disobedience Movement.

EXPLANATION:

Khan was a Pakhtun/Pathan from north-western frontier province, presently called (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), where people were believed to have subscribed to the code of revenge. However, Khan embraced Mahatma’s philosophy of non-violence since it resonated with the Islam religion, thus negating the idea that Muslims’ religion was inherently violent. Khan had raised the “Khudai Khidmatgar, or Servants of God” where one needed to take an oath which included refraining from the use of violence, retaliate or take revenge, and to be always forgiving towards those who indulged in oppression/excesses against them.

Khan was nicknamed Frontier Gandhi due to his strict adherence to adopting non-violence methods as practiced by Mahatma. At the age of 22, under Khan’s leadership, several people actively partook the Civil Disobedience movement, following to the methods as specified by Mahatma. Khan was also an active participant in the Salt March that was led by Mahatma for which he was arrested in the year 1930. In protest, thousands of his followers surrounded the jail and many more marched in Peshawar and other places. To supress the non-violent rebellion, the British resorted to firing on the unarmed protestors, yet Khan’s followers declined to hit back even as they were literally mowed down by the British.
