It was mainly the British discoverers who found out and promoted the ancient Indian rich literary texts.

Henry Thomas Colebrooke, Nathaniel Halhed and William Jones studied the Indian texts on philosophy, law, morality, politics, medicine and arithmetic.

They got them translated all into English so that the rest of the world can get an insight into the Indian literature.

They firmly believed that the translation of the ancient Indian texts and discoveries will lead to the discovery of the lost glories of the Indian texts and that would help the British to rule India in a nice way.
