Tilak was the first person to see that Britishers were oppressors and colonialists and believed that India should be Rid of these Britishers, not work with them.

He began the extremist faction of the Congress with Lajpat Rai and Bipin Chandra Pal and began to spread propaganda advocating action against the Britishers and throwing them out of the country.

He used the term Swaraj (Self Rule) for the first time.

Answer:

Tilak was the first leader of the Indian Independence Movement. The British colonial authorities called him "The father of the Indian unrest." He was also conferred with the title of "Lokmanya", which means "accepted by the people (as their leader)".
