First of the world food summit was in held between 13 to 17 November 1996 in Rome in which member states stated to "pledge political will and common and national commitment to achieve food security for all and to an ongoing effort to eradicate hunger in all countries, with an immediate view to reduce the number of undernourished people to half the present level by no later than 2015."
