Rani Laxmibai wanted the East India Company to make his adopted son the king after his husband's death. Which the East India Company refused because according to thier policy a king's son can only be a future king when he is the real son or his own blood. Whereas, Rani Laxmibai's son was adopted. So, the kingdom of Jhansi was taken under the British rule.

Answer:

Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi wanted the East India Company to recognise her adopted son as the heir to the kingdom after the death of her husband.

This demand was refused by the British.

Ultimately, the Company annexed the kingdom as per the Doctrine of Lapse.
