Answer:

In regard to what seemed like a solution known as the Green Revolution in India wasn't only a benefiting contribution to the society. There were also negative aspects of the introduction of HYV seeds and other ideas like usage of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, for a longer period of time.

Why are there drawbacks?

Explanation:

HYV seeds need a lot more irrigation.

The use of chemicals such as referred to pesticides, insecticides and fertilisers lead to the nature of soil becoming more acidic than its natural state. This tends to contaminate ground water as well.

Furthermore use of such chemicals leads to destruction of marine life.

Explanation:

"High Yielding Varieties” (HYV) of plants and enhanced use of fertilizers, pesticides and  irrigation equipment, collectively known as the Green Revolution, resulting to produce sufficient amount of food grains.

Disadvantages to use HYV seeds:

  • HYV plants requires high irrigation facilities, chemical fertilizers and pesticides to yield thte grains.
  • Excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides leads to decrease the soil fertility and also kill the useful bacteria in soil like nitrogenous bacteria and earthworms.
  • The farming costs will be high.
  • Poor farmers are unable to purchase HYV seeds, so they didn’t get any benefits from HYV seeds.
