Before the arrival of British, Bengal was a prosperous province. But the British looted in such a manner, that starvation pervaded over there. In Rajasthan also, the British started collecting kharaj from the kings in excessive amount and established their control upon economic institutions also. In the entire Rajputana, British earned huge profits from salt trade. Other trades and industries of Rajputana were also destroyed.
