Economic Causes of the First war of Independence ( 1857 ) are -

1. Peasants had to pay high taxes to the English East India Company. In the case, if crops failed at a year then also they had to pay the tax. They usually take help from the large moneylenders. If they were not able to play back the money to the moneylenders then they took away their land from the Peasants.

2. Old ruling classes were end up. Due to this, the people who earn a living by writing poems for the king were not able to purchase the basic need of the life.

3. Artisans and craftsmen were suffering the most. As they have to compete with the modern machines of the English East India Company.
