1. To meet the war needs, the trees were cut heavily. In India, Colonial Govt. cut the trees.
2. Many local communities used the war as an opportunity to expand cultivation and hence they cut the forest.
3. Colonial government cut down trees and used the timber to strengthen their naval power by making war ships so that they could use the war ships during the world wars.
