The Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event, or the K-T event, is the name given to the die-off of the dinosaurs and other species that took place some 65.5 million years ago. For many years, paleontologists believed this event was caused by climate and geological changes that interrupted the dinosaurs' food supply.

the K-T event, is the abberiviation given to the extinction of the dinosaurs and other species that took place some 65.5 million years ago or more then that. For several years, paleontologists believes that this event was caused by climate and geological changes that interrupted the dinosaurs' food supply and shelter.they were not able to survive in that climate. theorized for many years about what could have caused this "mass extinction," called, as the K-T event stands for Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction event
extinctions occurred at the same time as the impact provides strong situational evidence that the K–Pg extinction was caused by the asteroid. K is actually the traditional abbreviation for the Cretaceous period, and T is the abbreviation for the Tertiary period. So the K-T boundary is the point in between the Cretaceous and Tertiaryperiods. Geologists have dated this period to about 65.5 million years ago. Many scientists believe the fallout from the impact killed the dinosaurs. ... Some scientists think both may have contributed to the extinction, and others suggest the real cause was a more gradual shift in climate and changing sea levels.

Although the cause of their extinction is still a deep mystery, climatic change, diseases, changing plant communities, and geologic events could all have played a role.  dinosaur extinction theories have been the subject of much debate and controversy.
