Answer:

The fire that had completely burnt down the narrator's house had a huge impact. His mother had rushed into the house to save some of her husband's memories and therefore had inhaled smoke because of which she fainted. After some time the narrator realises the loss of his cat. He also loses all his belongings such as clothes, books and all other school necessities due to which he had to go to school the next day in the clothes he had been wearing the morning the fire broke out. He had to go to school without his backpack and other things. The fire not only had an impact on material things but also on the narrator emotionally. He feels he is continuously losing everything the more he tries to accustom to the changes in his life.
