The English Education Act was a legislative Act of the in 1835 giving effect to a decision in 1835 by , the then of , to reallocate funds the was required by the to spend on education and literature in . Formerly, they had supported traditional Muslim and Hindu education and the publication of literature in the native learned tongues.

In discussions leading up to the Act produced his famous Memorandum on (Indian) Education which was scathing on the inferiority (as he saw it) of native (particularly Hindu) culture and learning. He argued that Western learning was superior, and currently could only be taught through the medium of English. There was therefore a need to produce - by English-language higher education -" a class of persons, Indian in blood and colour, but English in taste, in opinions, in morals and in intellect" who could in their turn develop the tools to transmit Western learning in the vernacular languages of India. Among Macaulay's recommendations were the immediate stopping of the printing by the East India Company of Arabic and Sanskrit books and that the Company should not continue to support traditional education beyond "the Sanscrit College at Benares and the Mahometan College at Delhi" (which he considered adequate to maintain traditional learning). Therefore, Britishers changed the education system of India to destroy its culture and to prove Indians that they are superior either in their language or in culture which somehow destroyed the culture or customised the culture of India.

Now let's talk about it's side effects of Indian culture:-

Now people use to wear Western clothes instead of Indian clothes

Now people use to prefer to talk in English as it will be a sign of how much educated you are.

It destroyed the best education system of this world “Gurukul System”

It taught the students that Britishers were the one who developed India and helped them whereas Indian rulers were coward but the actual thing have been never revealed that how Britishers ran away from India after Neta ji Subhash Chandra Bose with his Azad Hind Fauz.

Today students are suffering from the marks competitions which leads to a large no. Suicide of students in India.

This education systen is not self employed oriented creating a problem for India of Educated Unemployment.

This education system is all about rote and learning whereas Gurukul system was all about Practical work and Intelligence.

In this education system, all the western science is taught to the students which makes them think that only Western people are geniuses and they are nothing but the actual thing is, Indians have been Aryans from their blood and always have been geniuses either in IT, Space Program (ISRO), Science (Vedas and Shastras) and mathematics (like Aryabhatta and Vedic maths).
