The spark that led to a mutiny in several sepoy companies was the issue of new gunpowder cartridges for the Enfield rifle in February, 1857. A rumour was spread that the cartridgeswere made from cow and pig fat. Loading the Enfield required tearing open the greased cartridge with one's teeth.

ANSWER:
The cartridges for the new enfield rifle was covered with fat of cow and pig. THe sepoys denied to use the new cartridge. The cartridge had to be opened with mouth and expose the gun powder. This was against their religion. Which led to Sepoy Mutiny and brought nationalism among all. This led to the first war of indipendence, as whole country was together.
