Satyagraha is a Sanskrit word which is made of two words ''Satya'' and ''Agraha''.''Satya'' means'' Truth'' and ''Agraha'' means ''Great Enthusiasm''.The two words combined may be rendered as ''Firmness of the truth'' or 'seeking upto truth''.

⇒ Mahatma Gandhi had come from South Africa where he had successfully faught the racist regime with a novel methods of mass agitation, which he called satyagraha.

⇒ Gandhiji's basic idea on satyagraha was evolved from the study of the works of Tolstoy and Hindu Scriptures. Fasting Non-Corporation and the Civil Disobedience of State laws were an extreme form of satyagraha.
Passive Resistance also Stress on Sufferings - fasting, peaceful demonstrations and standing in the middle of the Road and Responding to the Police Action.

⇒ The Idea of the Satyagraha Emphasised the Power of Truth and the need to search for truth. It suggested that if the cause was true, if the struggle was against Injustice, then Physical Force was not necessary to fight the Oppressors. By this Struggle, Truth was bound to ultimately triumph. Mahatma Gandhi believed that the ''Dharma'' of ''Non-Violence'' could unite all Indians.
