the British introduced N.P-2 Rifles in 1854 the Cartidge of which were to sneared which fat of cow and pig and had to be bitten off of with mouth prior to loading , fat of cow and pig where a religious faboo for Hindus and Muslims respectively and this is the immediate cause of the revolt

the immediate cause of revolt of 1857 is that sepoys had to bite the cartiges to open.This cartiges are greased by animal fats.and it hurt the sentiment of religious people.mangal pandey fought against it and started a great revolt of 1857.
