Major Causes of French revolution :
In 1774, Louis XVI of bourban dynasty was made to handle whole throne of France. He was also made to marry a beautiful princess of Austria ,Marie Antoinette.
These were the reasons for the French revolution:-
- Dept of war, cost of maintaining army, court : Before Louis XVI was given throne , already the economic condition of the country was too bad because of the war that happened between Britain and thirteen American colonies , in which France helped America financially. This made France itself to get disbalanced economically. Also France is said to be fancy who spends most of the money on maintaining there court and all. So , they spent all money there and was not left with any. This made King Louis to increase the taxes on food and daily need items. Spontaneously , cost was too much increased that people were not able to buy daily need items.
- Feudal system : In 18th century, France was divided into three estates. The people of first and estates were clergy and and church owner who enjoyed all the privileges and need not pay any taxes. And almost 60% of land was owned by the people of these two estates. Remaining , people of third estate used to pay every taxes and a time approached when they didn't had enough money to buy "bread" which was there standard food.
- Extra Taxes : The taxes on people of the third estate was no less, where the church also started to extracting taxes. These taxes were known as tithes. These also included some indirect taxes which were added to salt and tobacco. *the direct taxes were known as taille.
- Influencing of philosophers and richer member of that society : Already , people there were very angry with all these taxes. And philosophers started to presenting there views on these. these philosophers talked in very logical note , which was discussed everywhere in every nook and corner , every tea stall by the people of third estate. Also, from third estate there were few people who earned there wealth from exporting overseas trade. These people were rich , and they started to question the laws of the society. And people find there views too logical that they realised the need of a revolution. This made people go crazy and the revolution started!!
People did very amazing things on the starting of this revolution. the best thing was removal of these feudal system. On removal of this system , all the money and wealth consumed by these two estates got freed this improved the economy a lot there.
