Immediate Cause .

  • On 28 th June , 1914 , the heir to the throne of Austria Hungary , Archduke Francis Ferdinand was assassinated at Sarajevo , the capital of Bosnia .
  • The assassination was organized by a secret society called Black Hand or the Union of Death .
  • Their motive was to unite all Serbians to form a single Serbian state.
  • Austria served an ultimatum on Serbia demanding eleven demands.
  • As Serbia did not accept all demands , Austria declared the War on Serbia.

  • Soon all countries joined the War.
  • This was the immediate cause.
