Answer:

New Enfield rifle cartridges

Explanation:

Though there were many diverse political, social, economic and religious causes the main or immediate cause was the introduction of the new Enfield rifles in February 1857. A rumour was that the cartridges were greased with the fat of cows and pigs. The soldiers were supposed to bite off the cartridge covers. This affected the religious sentiments of both Hindu and Muslim soldiers since there were not supposed to eat cow and pig meat.

Indians just want a reason to go aganist britisher .there were many reason but at that time rumor play a significant role. Indias think that britisherswant to spoil there religion .the imp reason was the grease of cow and pig . Even there was a rumor in the market that english people had mix pig and cow bones in atta so the denay to touch atta. But it all was fake because britishers were not interested in our religion . There were 80 percent of getting freedom in 1857 but lack of unity between muslim and hindu spoil this gold chance of getting a britisher free country
