The introduction of the 'Enfield Rifle' was the immediate cause of the Revolt 1857 because it was of the opinion that the cartridge of the Enfield Rifle had to be bitten before using it. The cartridge was made up of pork and beef. .Thus, began the Revolt of 1857.

immediate cause of the revolt of 1857 is the cartridges of the refile was smeared with grease and covered with caps which had to be bitten off before use the sepoys believe that the grease was made from the fat of animals that would hurt the religious sentiments of both Hindus and muslims mostly so they refused to use them on 29 March 1857 Mangal Pandey of the 34th infantry at Barrackpore called upon his fellow sepoys to the report against the use of cartridges.
