Bolsheviks organised the October Revolution.

In 1917 February O.S (Old Style Calendar) or March (New Style) Petrograd Revolutionaries overthrew the Tsar and established a Provisional Government which from February/March to July was headed by Georgy Lvov and from July to October (O.S) / November by Alexander Kerensky.

The government was intially popular, but one of its mistakes was to keep Russia in the War (World War I) which made them very umpopular.

Bolsheviks used this to make themselves more popular and it worked

On October (O.S) November (New Style) Bolsehviks overthrew the provisional government which at the time called itself Russian Republic and established a new regime.

After that a Civil War followed.

On March 3rd 1918, The Central Powers and The new Bolsehvik government signed a peace treaty called ‘’Treaty of Brest-Litovsk’’

After the Civil War the word ‘’Bolsheviks’’ was not used that much as it used to be. Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Communists or Socialists was more common.

So the Bolseviks had a huge impact on the Russian Revolution, because in the end they came to rule Russia for 74 years.
