The Eighteenth century witnessed the emergence of social groups , termed the middle class . In addition to merchants and manufacturers, the middle class group included professions such as lawyers or administrative officials .

All of these were educated and believed that no groups in the society should be privileged by birth. Rather, a person’s social position must depend on his merit.

They wanted to built a society based on freedom and equal laws.

The demanded voting in the General Assembly should be conducted under the principle of one person one vote. When this proposal was rejected by The King , the middle class decided to form the National Assembly.

Hope it helps!!
