Jacobin government was the most radical government which was overthrown after the French Revolution. After this, a directory was formed which was a executive of five member elected by the two legislative councils.
The purpose of setting up the directory was to promote the concept of federalism. Under this, the power was supposed to be divided among all unlike the one under the Jacobin government.
The result of the establishment of a directory were not positive, as there were always clashes of the directory with the legislative councils. This unrest paved way for military dictatorship of Napoleon Bonaparte. The directory was eventually demolished.
