Answer:

The short story Three Questions is by Leo Tolstoy.

Explanation:

The answer to the questions are as follows:

  1. The bearded man knew that the king would be alone while in the pursuit of knowledge at the old hermit's place. Since he bore a grudge against the king for killing his brother and seizing his property, he had intended to kill the king while he would be alone and defenseless.
  2. As luck would have it, the king took longer than usual to return. In a desperate attempt to know the king's location, the bearded man attacked the King's bodyguard, but in turn, himself got badly wounded
  3. While injured, the bearded man ran for safety and stumbled upon the king and the hermit. Upon seeing the wounded man, the king immediately got to tending his wounds. Moved by the King's actions that potentially saved his life, the bearded man forgave the king and even swore to be his loyal servant.

The story attempts to answer the questions of which is the most important time, who are the most important people, and what should be the most important thing for one to do.
