Irony refers to an unusual and unexpected part of a situation etc that seems strange and amusing.

From my point of view -

There are two ironic incidents in the story "If I were you".

✴1. As the intruder enters, we expect that the Gerrard would be frightened but it didn't happened at all but instead he confused Intruder by his mysterious kind of conversation.

✴2. We expect that something is going to be wrong with Gerrard and he would came into trouble as intruder was behaving too smartly at last but the expected circumstances reverse and the one who is there to kidnap or kill Gerrard get into the trap .
