What was the issue of disagreement between the orientalists and the anglicists?

The main issues were the disagreements between the learning of literature and science among Orientalists and Anglicists. Orientalists wanted to promote and teach the language known as Vernacular that was about the old customs and laws and ancient texts in the form of poetry. While anglicists were against it as they thought scientific knowledge is more important than poetry in order to be successful

Anglicist and orientalist are disagreed because orientalist favour the study of traditional learning using vernacular languages while anglicist promotes the study of western learning through the English as a medium of instruction.Raja Ram Mohun Roy supported anglicist.Lord Macaulay wrote a minute in support of the anglicist. It was approved by Lord Bentinck.
