The Sikhs had gathered in the Jallianwala Bagh on the April 13,1919 to peacefully protest against the leaders- Saifuddin Kitchlu and Dr. Satya Pal. It was a part of the nation wide protests against the Rowlatt Act. The Bagh had only one exit and thus taking advantage of the situation, General Dier, the then Military commander of Amritsar surrounded the place from all sides and opened fire. The British army kept shooting until all their artillery was exhausted which lead to the death of about thousand innocent Indians. This event shook the conscience of the nation and is grieved till date!
