Law of octaves, in chemistry, the generalization made by the English chemist J.A.R. Newlands in 1865 that, if the chemical elements are arranged according to increasing atomic weight, those with similar physical and chemical properties occur after each interval of seven elements. Newlands was one of the first to detect a periodic pattern in the properties of the elements and anticipated later developments of the periodic law.

Newland law of octave:-

According to Newland law of octave if elements are arranged in the order of their increasing atomic mass then the property of every eighth element is similar to the first one (counting start from an element)..

There was some limitations of Newland law of octave... These are mentioned below

1.Newland law of octave was applied up to calcium element only. It mean Newland law of octave is applicable for lighter elements only it was not applicable on heavier elements.

2.Newland said that there are only 54 elements on the earth and on other element will be found in future but later some more elements found and they doesn't fit in Newland law of octave.

Hope it helps!!!!
