what was the limitations of mandeleev classification
Answers
No fixed position could be assigned to hydrogen in the Periodic Table.Isotopes discovered long after Mendeléev periodic classification of
elements imparted a challenge to Mendeleev’s Periodic Law.The atomic masses of elements did not increase in a steady manner while going from one element to other which made it difficult to predict ...

Limitations of mendeleev's classification were:
1. Anomalous position of hydrogen: menedeleev put hydrogen with the alkali metals in the group 1A because he saw that hydrogen and alkali metals have one electron in the outermost shell and also have similar properties to them.
But hydrogen also wants only one electron to complete its it's duplet and hallogens also want only one electron to complete its octect so hydrogen can be kept here also.
Position of hydrogen is controversial that is fixed position cannot be assigned to hydrogen.
2. Position of isotopes:
Isotopes are elements with similar chemical properties but different atomic masses. Isotopes pose a challenge to mendeleev's periodic table as he could not explain why atoms with different atomic masses are considered the atoms of the same element .
3. Prediction of elements:
Menedeleev predicted many elements but many more were predicted in future . This was because atomic does not increase in a range and so it cannot be predicted that how many elements will be discovered between these two elements.
