The main groups of rani of jhansi against british was that , Sir Hugh Rose laid siege to the fortress of jhanshi in march 1858. Rani offered a brave resistance. But  jhansi was captured by british with the help of traitors who opened  the gate of fortress on the night of 4th april 1858. She fled towards Kalpi where Tantia Tope joined her.
