main objective of the constitutional amendment made in 1992 in India -

The amendment provides for a three tier system of local government at village, block and district levels.

It provided for reservation of seats in local government bodies to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes

It is mandatory for state governments to hold elections to these local government bodies every five years.

1/3 rd of the seats reserved for the women

the state government has to share the power with the local bodies
