सत्याग्रहsatyāgraha) — loosely translated as "insistence on truth", "loyalty to the truth" (satya "truth"; agraha "insistence" or "holding firmly to") or holding onto truth[1] or truth force— is a particular form of nonviolent resistanceor civil resistance. The term satyagraha was coined and developed by Mahatma Gandhi(1869–1948).[2] He deployed satyagraha in the Indian independence movement and also during his earlier struggles in South Africa for Indian rights. Satyagraha theory influenced Martin Luther King Jr.'s and James Bevel's campaigns during the Civil Rights Movementin the United States, and many other social justice and similar movements.[3][4] Someone who practices satyagraha is a satyagrahi.

1.Mahatma Gandhi with his unique idea of struggle called Satyagraha emphasised on the power of truth. 2.He shifted the national movement to the next phase by spreading them to new areas and involving new social groups. 3.He believed that true struggle would not need any choice to physical violence and that a Satyagrahi could win the battle through non-violence by changing the principles of the British. 4.He also believed that his idea of Satyagraha was not meant for thinking and preaching rather than action by people. 5.He thought Ahimsa was the symbol of strength and he made people to remain non-violent and organise peaceful protest against the British.
