Answer:

The first Five Year Plan(FYP) was commenced in 1951, and it’s main thrust were:

1. To invest in irrigation and dams to improve agriculture with urgent attention.

2. Huge allocation was made to Bhakra Nagal dam.

3. It focused more on land reforms to develop the rural areas.

4. The foremost aim was to increase the level of National Income.

First FYP was different from second FYP :

1. In second FYP  industrialization was stressed upon whereas in first FYP, agriculture and irrigation were focused upon.

2. The first plan had preached patience, the second wanted a quick structural transformation by making changes simultaneously in all possible directions.

The major thirst of the first plan was endurance, but the second plan was to try to make structural changes at a faster pace.

Explanation:

  • The first five-year plan laid special emphasis on the agricultural sector as food shortages were a matter of grave concern during that period. During this five-year plan, the foundation of five steel plants was laid.
  • While Under the second five-year plan's focus was on the industry. Domestic production of industrial products was encouraged in the Second Plan.
  • Under this scheme, the government had targeted to increase the national income at a faster pace by 25% in 5 years to raise the standard of living of the people of the country.
  • For this, it was decided to change every possible direction. For example, the government imposed a heavy duty on imports to protect indigenous industries.
