German parliament is called as the “Bundestag” literal meaning- "Federal Diet". It was established in 1949 as one of Germany’s legislative bodies by “Article III” of the German constitution. It is also the successor to “Reichstag”- literal translation “diet of the realm”.  

It is compared to the “U.S’s House of Representatives” and “UK’s House of Commons”. It has 709 seats that uses Mixed member proportional representative system. Both the "Bundestag" and the "Bundesrat" (representative body of Germany’s regional states) govern the state of Germany which is a federal democracy.
