Domino Theory or Domino Effect was given to the idea that if Vietnam fell to Communism the rest of the Southeast Asia would become Communist.

This was coined by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower and it became the Cold War policy of US for a decade in 1950s. The US believed that if Vietnam fell to Communism, it would lead to Communist take overs in neighboring states, each falling like a perfectly aligned row of dominos.

This policy was used by US to justify the US intervention in Vietnam War.
