ANSWER ⤵⤵

During the 13th century, Indian indigo was used to manufacture clothes in Britain, France and Italy. But only lesser amount of Indian indigo was brought to the European market and hence the price was very high. As woad was grown in many parts of Europe and was easily available, woad producers compelled to prohibit the import of indigo. However cloth dyers preferred indigo as it created a deep blue colour but the woad dye was very light. Though indigo was cultivated in many parts of the world, the industrialisation in Britain and establishment of cotton mills around the 18th century demanded more imports of Indian indigo.
