The nature of revolt against British before the first war of independence was as follows -

• The revolt of 1857 is known as the "first war of independence" of the India. This was the first organised protest against the British government.

• Before the first war of independence, the protest against the British were very random and there was no unity among the Indian population.

• The reason for the lack of unity was the extreme division of the India in terms of small kingdoms and different rulers. The rulers of that time period had no unity among them and started protest in their own random manner.

• As a result, the overall protest against the British government was very weak before 1857. But, after the revolt of 1857,the unity was slowly established in the freedom movement of the India.
