Firstly, revolt of 1857 which is wrongly considered as the First and only Sepoy Mutiny was a joint effort of kings from all over the country. Before that three such Mutinies happened in India in a much smaller scale a hence were not highlighted. After the battles like Battle of Plassey(1757), Battle of Baxur(1764) etc. The then scattered kingdoms in India came to a common understanding making British their common rival. There was a first Sepoy Mutiny in the Barracks or Visakhapatnam in 1780 when a group of sepoys ruthlessly opened fire on their senior officers who commanded to fight against their fellow Indian, Hyder Ali(father of Tipu Sultan). Later two such minor incidents occurred, one at tamil nadu in 1806 and the last in Gorakpur, 1824. As these were minor battles, they didn’t come into lime light and due to poor communication, people didn’t understand or know about the struggle. But, by the time 1857 Sepoy Mutiny occured, as it involved a lot of kings from almost the whole country in the manner of our traditional warfare, people knew the need to rise against British who were plundering them. And the Nationalist movement from 1885–1947 which was divided into three phases was very well known and its effects are evident.
