In the poem the cold within, the poet wants to emphasize the need of warmth in the heart, compassion for the fellow beings transcending religious and colour barriers. No external problem is too great to solve if the people of this world are together, irrespective of cast, creed, religion etc. The six people in the poem died not from the outside cold, but from the cold within.
