Drexler founded the German Workers party im 1919. Hitler entered it it 1920 and soon became its leader, adding “National-Socialist” to the party's name. The word “Nazi” is an abbreviation of the latter built in analogy with “Sozi” for a social democrat, and was used mainly by the opponents of the party.
