Hughie was a very good looking young man who captivated all with his clear cut profile, grey eyes, crisp brown hair. All the men and women admired her. But he is unemployed. He loved Laura Merton who is the daughter of retired colonel. Retired Colonel demanded Hughie to earn ten thousand pounds of his own. Hughie was sullen and cursed himself for not fulfilling the Colonel's wish. He met his friend Alan Trevor who is a famous painter. Though he is ugly in appearance, he is mastered in paintings. He was drawing a picture on living models. There he saw a man posing as a beggar. Hughie was moved by his look and gave him a sovereign as he thought he is a real beggar. But the real fact is, he is Baron Hausberg, one of the richest men in Europe. Baron was not angry with his act, but he come to know Hughie's condition and rewarded him ten thousand pounds as the wedding present.
