Aryans, who were mostly busy fighting wars, regarded woman as useful and productive members of society. The condition of Vedic Woman was good. Woman also enjoyed religious status like that of men, especially in Vedic initiation and studies.

In later vedic period there was significant decline in the status of women. Their Participation in yajnas Was not considered necessary. They did not enjoy the right to property. The freedom to choose husband by women was curtailed
