During the Vedic period women enjoyed the position at par with men in every field . they studied the Vedas , performed sacrificial sites , had equal share in the property and also practised polyandry ( more than one husband ) . Vedic age consisted of great women scholars like maitreyi , gargi , lopamudra etc .
