Given that:

  • The merchant's profit on laptop was 25% of the price at which he sold the laptop.
  • The price at which he sold the laptop was 200 rupees more than the merchant's cost of laptop.

To Find:

  • What was the price at which a merchant sold a laptop?

Let us assume:

  • The selling price of laptop be x.
  • Profit = 25% of x = 0.25x

We know that:

  • Cost price = Selling price - Profit

Finding the cost price of an laptop:

  • Cost price = x - 0.25x
  • Cost price = 0.75x

Finding the selling price of laptop:

According to the question.

⟶ x = 0.75x + 200

⟶ x - 0.75 = 200

⟶ 0.25x = 200

⟶ x = 200/0.25

⟶ x = 800

Hence,

  • The price at which a merchant sold a laptop was Rs 800.

Let cost price of one article be c and selling price of one article be s.

We need to find profit/loss% which is equal to ((s-c)/c) x 100 = (s/c - 1) x 100

Given that 20c = 25s. Then s/c = 4/5

Profit% = (4/5 - 1) x 100 = -20%
