Privy purse in India was a payment that was made to the Royal families of the former princely states of India. The Privy Purse was created by them as parts of agreements made by them to merge with the Union of India in 1947.
Until the Constitutional Amendment of 1971 was passed, the Privy Purse in India was sustained to the Royal Families. This amendment was implemented after extensive legal conflict, after implementation of this amendment, the priviliges and allowances that were provided by the Central Government of India to the Princely States was abolished.
But there were some instances where the Privy Purse was sustained for several years for those rulers who held ruling powers before the Indeendence of India in 1947.
