The purpose of the Office of War Information was as follows:
- Its goal was to bring together the many US government information services and establish a single channel of contact with the American public about the war.
- The OWI generated and distributed posters, pamphlets, photos, radio shows, and films to increase morale and patriotism, urge people to help with the war effort, and, most crucially, regulate all war-related material received by Americans.
- The Office of Conflict Information established a propaganda machine in charge of all public information relating to the war.
- Images and news items from the internet have been removed. It was coined the term "propaganda."
- Films, media, and advertising all included government-approved principles.
- Anything that had a detrimental impact on morale or the war effort was taken from the shelves.
